Where to find Europe's best snow right now

The Daily Telegraph, Feb 19

Largely absent in the first half of the season, the white stuff has arrived – and in vast quantities. Which is good news for Europe's many 'ski weeks' - and any of you planning to hit the slopes on your own this winter.

With the second half of the ski season already under way, quite suddenly we are inundated with oodles of pure powder across the Alps and the Pyrenees. But as a skier or snowboarder in this yo-yo winter, it’s time to consider where to go to catch the best of the snow between now and late April when the lifts close.

Over Christmas, all but the highest resorts were suffering from a marked absence of natural cover. To add to the woes of resort managers and visitors alike, high temperatures prevented artificial snow-making except at high altitude. Now, the snow is nothing short of excellent. A fortnight of real winter weather with temperatures as low as -20C (-4F) has turned the muggy, muddy days of December into a distant memory.
