Michelangelo’s David comes to London’s V&A

The Daily Telegraph, Nov 14

Michelangelo’s David is an undoubted masterpiece and one of Florence’s most famed works of art, but seeing it in person can be a trial. A cumbersome ticket system and extended waiting times to enter the Accademia gallery where it is housed can be irritating, and the statue itself is invariably swamped by tourists.

However, from November 29, British travellers who wish to avoid the tumult can see an exact replica of the sculpture at London’s V&A museum.

A mid-1800s plaster cast of the original early-1500s marble statue, the cast was given to Queen Victoria as a gift by Leopold II, the Grand Duke of Tuscany and, in conversation with the Daily Mail, the V&A’s sculpture conservator said it should be treated as a legitimate work of art in its own right.
